Bits and Pieces
Apr. 7th, 2004 11:44 pmI'm packed, room is reasonably tidy and I'm off home tomorrow. Hooray! I get to sleep, eat chocolate, walk my dog and relax a bit. Just what I need, I think. I can catch up on stuff (that thing that always needs doing), watch some DVDs, see how my parents are, unwind.
Whilst packing, I caught a bit of Footballer's Wives, which is complete trash, but incredibly watchable. Everyone in it is completely bitchy, shagging everyone else and behaving ridiculously, all the time. And no-one plays football. It ended with one character's dead husband telling her by video that he had put holes in her condoms, so she was pregnant with his child. Bizarre!
There are at least three films coming out soon that I really want to see. The first is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, with Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey. Yes, I know it's got Jim Carrey in it, but if I tell you that it's directed by Michel Gondry and written by Charlie Kaufman, will that change your mind? It sounds like a bit of a complex plot, but bear with me. It's about a guy whose girlfriend erases him from her memory, so he decides to do the same, but changes his mind and goes on a trip through his mind. Sounds good, yes?
Next up is a dark documentary called Capturing the Friedmans, which features a family accused of some awful crimes in the 70's. What they go through is all caught on their home videos. Apparently, harrowing but brilliant.
Finally, Shaun of the Dead. The title alone makes me want to see this. And it's Simon Pegg! Who rocks. I think the most appropriate tag is zom rom com, which is all you need to know.
Won't be able to get to any of these until I get back from the wasteland of Yorkshire, which is without cinema, internet and occasionally electricity. (I kid, I kid.)
I've finally started reading the His Dark Materials trilogy, after being told to by so many people. I'm not sure quite why I've resisted for so long - something never quite appealed to me. All forgotten now, because the first few chapters sweep you in and whirl you around like nobody's business. It'll be a great train read, that's for sure.
Won't be in email range till Tuesday night, so hope everyone has a great Easter and good days off. Try not to eat too much chocolate. ;)
